Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important official commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
